Me, Myself and I

Hello! I’m Amy-Louise Vincent. I am a Illustrator from South London.

Thank you, for taking your time to browse my portfolio. I feel I should take the time to talk about myself, who I am and what I do.

I live in a small town called Carshalton, in the London Borough of Sutton, with my mum and our two cats; Sonny and Lulu as well as Lulu's mum (semi adopted from our neighbour) Lucky. I studied my Bachelor of Arts Honours at the University of Creative Arts - Canterbury, with a Second class - Upper Division in Illustrations & Animation. I currently work part-time at Hobbycraft Croydon as an Artisan Assistant, but In my time, I am a freelance artist/illustrator.

I prefer to call myself an artist/illustrator rather than just an illustrator because I work in a variety of materials and a range of subject matters; naming myself just an illustrator or just an artist feels like i'm not allowing that flexibility or freedom to my work. It also labels me JUST an illustrator; where I find I have graphic design skills as well, because we shared the course with Graphic Designs, as we where all under the Visual Communication Department.

I have always been a very creative person, always drawing and colouring as a child, I believe it's because it runs in the family as my mum was a graphic designer before she had my sister, my granddad who I call Opa, paints in watercolour as a hobby and my dad was very creative at school. I also think Dyslexia pays a tribute into it some how as I find it easier to understand things using colours or anything visual. As of 2022, I am officially diagnosed with ADHD which completely make sense of my work and it’s influence.

My work has always gone in a more realistic approach however introducing digital art has helped me learnt my work can still have that approach without crazy amount of detail. I will admit it took me a while into my degree before I had noticed that my strength is more in the use of colour; the use of vibrant and bright colours are constant though-out my work including pieces from before my degree.

I take inspiration from what I experience in my life as i believe my mindset has a contribution to the outcome of my projects. In my option, this helps me to communicate my ideas better as i'm taking elements and adding to a subject matter that I feel needs exploring. Previous work has mainly explored the female form, self critic or something that conveys emotion in some way or another, and a primarily use of oil-paint, acrylic or charcoal.

I work from home in a room and my shed that I have dedicated as my studio. It’s often very messy in both rooms, with a lot of paint, canvases, scrap paper and other rubbish lying around. I call it my creative mess. I don't feel I've been productive enough until there is that mess. If It's a lovely day outside I have the shed door open which is when Sonny sits by the door or Lulu and Lucky visiting then climb and chill on top of my shelves. Sometime I do get the typical cat behaviour of sitting on the MacBook or the paper-pile next to me. I wouldn't have it any other way, cause if they weren't keeping an eye on me, Youtube would distract me for curtain.

So, thats me. I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about who I am and what I do.
